Come on bro that’s the foundation of all RP there is nothing else!!1!!1!

okay, okay, okay.
I adore shipping as much as the next rper.
but the idea that rp is ONLY shipping? (though I’m sure this particular thing is a joke? I can’t assume though, but I hope it is)
I see people a lot in some of my groups who come into the group just to pair their character up with someone. They attach them to the first person they talk to, and act as if that’s the only thing they should rp- that relationship and putting people together and such.
It’s a major problem.
I KNOW I’m not an innocent in this particular complaint. I’ve had characters who I only wanted shipped off with someone as quickly as possible. But you know what? Because the character I wanted to ship mine with didn’t return my character’s feelings, we moved on- learned that not everybody’s going to ship things *period* and not everybody is going to ship with you.
My boyfriend and I (actually) are major shippers though. We can ship anything. That guy and the banana he’s holding. The ship and the island. A kid and a particular color. ANYTHING. But we joke about it, and we don’t force it on other people. Sure, we comment ‘hey, this would be funny,’ or ‘oh, I ship that!’ and we all get a laugh about it.
But the problem that I see with a LOT of amateur rpers who ship out of hand is that they try to force their ships onto other people. And when the ship that they want isn’t carried out, they throw tantrums and can’t get over it at all. This is the most annoying thing ever. After all, there’s some sneaky shippers out there like that who you meet, or who’ll join a group with a GREAT character, and a GREAT writing style, and then get in because everyone wants to meet them, and then they’ll try to force their ship on the rest of everyone. These kinds of people are why I’ve left several groups shortly upon arriving.
Now, that’s not to say that shipping can’t happen at all. I’ve made a couple characters myself who weren’t ever supposed to be shipped with ANYONE and then were suddenly being clamored for by everyone because apparently people are like cats when it comes to shipping?
I actually found this inverse relationship to that theory (unprovable at this point,) but at one point I made a character I intended for fanservice, but then nobody liked her (granted, she was fucking crazy, and in a group where there were mostly female rpers and gay characters.)
But then I also made a character who was androgynous for the fact that they disliked sex, romance, and anything of the like, and suddenly he was shipped off with almost all the horny men in the group, and ended up in several compromising situations because while we were joking around with the actual shipping, the characters canonically actually wanted the person who didn’t want them.
(weird, right?)
But then there’s my point. If everybody can ship it and have fun, then it’s cool to go ahead and ship it and have fun. If you ship it, and you want it to happen, but your partner/group doesn’t want that ship (or any ship for that matter because it’s not supposed to have romance or whatever the case is,) then just write your own little fanfic about your group/rp or whatever. It’s always worked for me to get out that sort of frustration, because you never want to pester people about shipping your ship.

(do I even have a point I was making at this point? I can’t remember omfg)
